Sometime soon the snow will stop falling in Minnesota. We’re hopeful that spring weather is right around the corner. Be prepared for warmer spring weather and check your sump pump. Melting snow, rain, warmer temperatures and frozen ground thawing means that sump pumps will need to function or you’ll end up with water in your basement.
Importance of Sump Pumps
Sump pumps are an important piece of equipment in homes that often gets overlooked. During winter in Minnesota your sump pump may run less often or not at all, but it is important that it is functioning in spring when you need it. We often hear from people frustrated with water damage in their basement after it happens. It makes a mess, ruins personal property and can be expensive to clean-up.
There are a few things you can do to make sure you are prepared.
- Check you sump pump and make sure it is functioning properly.
- If you aren’t sure how to do this contact a professional, local plumbers are usually your best choice.
- Make repairs or replace your sump pump if neccessary.
- Do you have a back-up power source? If the power goes out your sump pump won’t function unless you have a back-up power source. Have a plan in place.
- Check your insurance coverage. Do you have proper coverage if you get water in your basement?
